Save the Date On Election Day Working at the Election So you want to be a councillor 2020 Doomadgee Solar Projects Doomadgee Aboriginal Shire Council is partnering with Yurika and the Queensland Government to bring more solar to Doomadgee. The current solar farm will be expanded to the north. Solar panels will also be installed on the rooftops of around four Council buildings. Cr Jason Ned said that the new solar panels will be good for the shire. “The solar panels installed on Council buildings will save us about $20,000–$30,000 in electricity costs each year because council will own the systems. That’s good for the community because money will now stay in the community rather than paying power bills,” Cr Jason Ned said. “More solar in Doomadgee will be good for the environment and, because we will get more energy from solar, there won’t be as much diesel used in the community.” Work on the project is expected to commence in late July 2019 and be finished by the end of 2019. The project will see Doomadgee have more solar power than any other remote community in the state. Doomadgee is one of four additional communities in Queensland to receive state government support to access more solar energy. Learn more about the Queensland Government’s Affordable Energy Plan.
